HOW HCO WORKS

HCO artists are  young singers usually in the later stages of study at music conservatoires or recently launched in their careers.

To help identify the most promising emerging talent, the Hurn Court Opera Singer of the Year Competition was established in 2018.

Artists successful in the competition receive opportunities to perform in opera and recitals, to take part in masterclasses and to work with seasoned professionals. They will join other young singers of similar promise, selected by audition with the Artistic Director.

We thus create a complete circle of support – not just the occasional role or concert booking – giving singers the chance to grow with us during their crucial, early years, and giving audiences the chance to enjoy their talents.

Recitals and masterclasses can help to give HCO a degree of financial self-sufficiency. But this funding only takes us part of the way, and we are hugely grateful for the generous support of the people and organisations who help us further.
